Robert Dorgan aka Roberta Esposito was conflicted about their trans identity, at times proud but also equally embarrassed and conflicted about their gender identity.
The Rhode Island shooter ever since transitioning found themselves often at crises with family members along with work colleagues stemming from disagreement and acceptance of others and self.
Employees at a shipbuilding facility where Robert Dorgan, the 56 year old ‘trans’ gunman who shot & killed two family members, then self, described their colleague as being conflicted about transgender acceptance.
Dorgan was an employee of General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, a ship building facility in Bath, Maine, that contracts with the U.S. Navy, David Hench, a spokesperson for the shipyard, told the Associated Press.

The plant declined to respond to questions about Dorgan’s job title or how long they worked at the shipyard.
A colleague, Destiny Mackenzie, recalled that Dorgan used the women’s bathroom and that the two of them would often talk about family. Mackenzie said Dorgan’s ex-wife never came up in conversation but a hockey-playing son was a frequent topic.
Mackenzie said the shooter, who was often called Roberta (Esposito) at work, had a bad temper that sometimes led to screaming matches with colleagues.
Another coworker said Dorgan appeared to be split on the issue of transgender acceptance, ‘one second being proud of transitioning and the next, being equally embarrassed.’ That coworker, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of workplace reprisals, said they knew Dorgan owned guns but was unsure how many.

On the day of the shooting, Dorgan had used two guns, with police recovering seven firearms magazines, including some which had exceeded Rhode Island’s 10-round limit.
Of note, Dorgan’s place of employment predominantly employed males and may have put him the position of being ‘ogled,’ and ‘pointed out’ by brawn workers who may have inadvertently caused the ‘trans’ worker to be feel under the microscope and as an oddity.
Court documents citing Dorgan’s gender transitioning and gender reassignment surgery in 2020 spoke of the transition leading to personal upheaval and dislocation, including Robert’s then wife, Rhonda Dorgan filing for divorce as well as family members abusing and threatening Dorgan.

Dorgan according to AP, briefly served in the Marine Corps, enlisting on April 26, 1988, according to military records provided by the service, but his service was short-lived. Less than three months later, on July 13, Dorgan was separated from the service with the lowest military rank.
Maj. Jacoby Getty, a Marine Corps spokesman, told The Associated Press that the rapid discharge indicated ‘the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps’ expectations and standards.’
