A 44-year-old Florida woman is alleged to have killed her two young children before then taking her own life inside their Lakewood Ranch home, just outside of Sarasota on Thursday night.
Deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. to a house in the 8200 block of Pavia Way at the request of the homeowner, who was out of town at the time. When deputies entered the home, they found the homeowner’s 44-year-old wife, 14-year-old son along with her 11-year-old daughter.
Manatee County Sheriff’s Office declined to identify the victims or offer further details on how the mother killed her children. The mother is alleged to have taken the lives of her children before taking her own life according to a release.

Requested welfare check leads to macabre discovery
The children’s deaths were attributable to ‘homicidal violence’ with the mother’d body found in a separate room at the residence the Bradenton Herald reported.
The murder-suicide is alleged to have taken place at an upscale gated community at the Lake Club in Lakewood Ranch. The Lake Club is filled with multimillion-dollar mansions.
Police were called to the mansion by the woman’s husband who said he hadn’t heard from his family while in South America for business.
Cops did a welfare check about 8.30pm and caught a glimpse of the bloodbath through one of the mansion’s windows. The family moved in from Missouri about three years ago and there was no history of police calls to the house.
Lakewood Ranch murder-suicide was planned
Investigators said the mother ‘knew what she was doing’ and the evidence showed the murder-suicide was planned.
Forensics were at the house investigating and the medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Police refused to reveal how the trio were killed but said it was a ‘violent scene’.
No known motive
‘This is a horrible thing for the deputies to have to witness. Even worse, for the father and the husband who was on his way back from South America,’ they said.
‘He flew in this morning and had to be notified of what happened here. It’s an incredible emotional day for him. It’s not a good scene at all.’
Authorities have yet to say what led up to the tragedy and why the mom killed her own children then self.
The Lake Club at Lakewood Ranch said it had no information to add.
