A 44-year-old Florida woman is alleged to have killed her two young children before then taking her own life inside their Lakewood Ranch home, just outside of Sarasota on Thursday night.
Deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. to a house in the 8200 block of Pavia Way at the request of the homeowner, who was out of town at the time. When deputies entered the home, they found the homeowner’s 44-year-old wife, 14-year-old son along with her 11-year-old daughter.
While the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office declined to give details as to the identity of the mother and her children, a regard of Manatee County Property Appraiser government website gave an address with 8249 PAVIA WAY, BRADENTON FL 34202. Images of the property matched exactly those preliminary given by officials as the 8200 block of Pavia Way.

A further investigation of parcel id ownership of property revealed the address belonging to Richard James and spouse, Monika K Rubacha. A search report via Spokeo gave Richard James’ age as 45-years-old also going by the name of James Kapuschinsky.
A search on Linkedin led to the husband being identified as Senior Project Manager/Technical Delivery Manager for Boeing.
Another property site identified James Richard and Rubacha Monika owning a 4 bedroom residence estimated value of $1M from April 2020-July 2022 at 1286 Harvester Dr, Chesterfield, MO 63005. Previous police reports told of the married couple and their two children hailing from Missouri.
A further regard on social media led to a Facebook page belonging to Monika Karina Rubacha which showed images of the family of four.
Welfare check leads to tragic discovery at Lakewood Ranch, Florida home
The children’s deaths were attributable to ‘homicidal violence’ with the mothers body found in a separate room at the residence the Bradenton Herald reported.
The murder-suicide is alleged to have taken place at an upscale gated community at ‘The Lake Club,’ in Lakewood Ranch. The Lake Club is filled with multimillion-dollar mansions.
Police were called to the mansion by the woman’s husband who said he hadn’t heard from his family while in South America for business.
Cops did a welfare check about 8.30pm and caught a glimpse of the bloodbath through one of the mansion’s windows. The family moved in from Missouri about three years ago and there was no history of police calls to the house.
Mom knew what she was doing in planned ‘murder-suicide.’
Investigators said the mother ‘knew what she was doing’ and the evidence showed the murder-suicide was planned.
‘This is a horrible thing for the deputies to have to witness. Even worse, for the father and the husband who was on his way back from South America,’ the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office stated.
‘He flew in this morning and had to be notified of what happened here. It’s an incredible emotional day for him. It’s not a good scene at all.’
Authorities stated never previously having a call to the residence as they seek to understand what led to a mother killing her own children then self.
