When life mirrors art life… A 15 year old Wisconsin teen boy inspired by a Netflix crime documentary is alleged to have stabbed his mother to death.

Reed R. Gelinskey appeared in court on Thursday charged with the first degree stabbing murder of his mother, Suzanne Gelinskey at their family home on Tuesday, March 4th.

The victim’s 15 year old son was arrested after surrendering to responding officers at the family’s home in Caledonia, Fransville just on 10.30 p.m, Tuesday night. Investigators told of finding the mother’s body with stab wounds along with blunt force trauma.

Officers were summonsed to the home after a friend reported Gelinskey having Snapchatted a photo that showed a woman on her back with blood on the floor.

According to the criminal complaint, when officers arrived at the house, the teen ‘dropped a brown and silver kitchen knife at the front stoop of the home. He then made statements for officers to kill him and stated, ‘she is dead,’ and ‘she is dead from what I did.”

The boy told police he came home from school that day depressed and had an urge to kill his parents. He said he searched the home for a hammer because he was going to kill his father when he came home from work but could not find one large enough.

Reed Gelinskey then told officers that after dinner, his mother was sitting on the couch using her computer, so he started watching a movie. He said he then turned on a popular Menendez Brothers documentary.

The teen stated that he then developed a plan to kill his parents as the brothers were eventually found guilty of. He said it came to him while he watched the ‘shotgun scene’ in the documentary.

Investigators said the Reed Gelinskey hit his mother in the head twice with a dumbbell bar, then stabbed her with a steak knife.

Teen suspect had been taking his brother’s anxiety medication which may have triggered/emboldened him

According to the complaint, he told investigators his mother asked him, ‘Why?’ with the son replying, ‘Pain.’

During police questioning, the teen told detectives that he was taking his brother’s anxiety medication- and on the night of the slaying had taken nine pills, FOX6 reported.

The Racine district attorney said he will be charged as an adult.

The preliminary autopsy shows the mother’s cause of death was multiple force traumas to her chest that caused internal bleeding, the criminal complaint says.

Gelinskey’s bond was set for $1 million. He’ll be back in court on Friday, March 7, for a review hearing.
