Abdul Aziz Khan missing 7 year old boy found seven years after boy’s non custodial mother, Rabia Khalid & her new husband, Elliot Blake Bourgeois abducted the Atlanta area boy. Couple were found out during robbery attempt. Boy’s mystery disappearance had previously been featured on Netflix’s ‘Unsolved Mysteries.’
A 7 year old Atlanta boy reported abducted seven years ago was last week found in Colorado after the boy’s ‘non-custodial’ mother was arrested along with her new husband during an attempted robbery in the Highlands area.
Abdul Aziz Khan, now 14, was found living some 1400 miles in the Denver, Co. area the owner of a building saw what he believed to be a burglary in process on his phone and called police.
Rabia Khalid, 40, who initially declined to reveal her real identity was eventually linked to a 2017 warrant for abduction of a then 7 year old boy in the Atlanta area. The woman is accused of being behind the then 7 year old’s disappearance after the ‘non-custodial’ parent allegedly failed to show up for a custody hearing that same day.
How police were able to break case and link boy to prior abduction
The case, which was covered in Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries,”and which had remained an ongoing mystery was cracked last week when deputies were called to investigate an alleged burglary in progress in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Police arrived at the property on Feb. 23, at around 3:37 p.m., where they spotted two people inside a home listed for sale after getting a call from the homeowner who’d watched the alleged break in on his security camera in process.
The two suspects, Khalid and her husband Elliot Blake Bourgeois, 42, during police questioning claimed to be employees associated with the realtors of the property. Deputies soon found holes in their stories and began probing their identities.
The officers also found two children inside a vehicle parked in the driveway, with detectives then identifying the teenager in the car as the missing Aziz, now aged 14.
‘Our deputies responded to what initially seemed like a routine trespass call, but through sharp attention to detail and tenacity, they uncovered the truth,’ Sheriff Darren Weekly said in a statement.
‘Their ability to recognize the discrepancies in the suspects’ story and to follow the leads, even when the situation seemed unclear, ultimately led to the safe recovery of a child who had been missing for seven long years,’ he added.
Cold mystery case involving 7 year old boy finally solved
Aziz’s family said they were overjoyed at the recent discovery following years of torment when US Marshals Service agents informed them that Khalid and Bourgeois kidnapped the boy.
‘We’re overwhelmed with joy that Aziz has finally been found. We want to thank everyone for their support over the last seven years,’ the family said in a released statement.
At the time of the boy’s disappearance, the boy’s biological mother had filed for divorce, along with her blocking the boy’s biological father from seeing their son. The father was forced to go to court and serve Khalid with papers, informing her that he had the right to see Aziz. It was on the day that they were scheduled to attend a custody hearing that Khalid and her new husband fled Atlanta, leaving the boy’s father hanging and searching for answers.
Aziz and the other child, who was not publicly identified, were taken into protective custody, with a court set to decide where they will be placed.
Khalid and Bourgeois were booked in the Douglas County Jail and charged with kidnapping, forgery, identity theft, providing false information to authorities, and trespassing.
Both their bonds were set at $1 million.
