Does the apple fall too far from the tree? A top staffer brought on by Elon Musk to help run his DOGE mandate has been forced out after a media probe led to the revelation of previous social media posts promoting eugenics.
Marko Elez, 25, was one of two employees at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) granted access to $5trillion in the Treasury payment systems following an 11th hour court hearing on Thursday.
But by Thursday afternoon, the Musk ‘disciple’ had resigned after The Wall Street Journal exposed links to a since-deleted (see below) social media account promoting racist and pro eugenic (beliefs and practices that aim to improve the genetic quality of a human population) posts.
How does a rabid racist and pro-eugenics advocate get to be an Elon Musk disciple?
According to the publication, the X account ‘advocated repealing the Civil Rights Act and backed a ‘eugenic immigration policy.”
Other damning posts allegedly read, ‘You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity’, and ‘normalize Indian hate.’
Read another: ‘Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool.’
The account also commented in on the Israel-Palestine crisis, with one post allegedly reading: ‘I would not mind at all if Gaza and Israel were both wiped off the face of the Earth.’
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said that Elez had resigned from his role, declining to comment further. It remained unclear if the ‘trusted’ employee was forced to resign following the Wall St Journal expose or left on his own accord.
Elez graduated with a computer science degree from Rutgers University and went on to work for Musk’s SpaceX, Starlink, and X, with a focus predominately in AI.
The top staffer’s ouster follows public outrage over the depth of DOGE’s access to files, including government employees in sensitive areas along with concern how far the
DOGE at what cost?
DOGE team seek to dismantle and reign in what it ‘regards as wasteful’ government expenditures and a drain of the taxpayer. But who gets to decide what is wasteful?
Efforts to defang the nascent operative and even have it shut down comes barely two weeks into President Donald Trump’s second term and his mandate to ‘clean house’. Amid public protest, many have decried Musk heading up DOGE, claiming he was never elected and ‘that no one ever voted for this,’ along with questioning the legitimacy of the DOGE’s existence, MSNBC reported.
Concern over overreach and illegitimate purging of previously approved government expenditures, comes amid a last ditch court request on Thursday to limit DOGE’s access to the Treasury’s $5 trillion payment system.
Over the coming days and weeks, the court’s decision on privacy concerns about DOGE’s access to the data will be a monumental test of the Trump/Musk initiative’s ability to infiltrate and wipe out government spending.

The young men of DOGE and public push-back
Lawyers with the Justice Department agreed to a motion that allows only two people associated with Musk ‘read-only’ access to the system – including tax returns and social security numbers – on the condition that they do not share what they find with colleagues.
Those two employees are Musk disciples Tom Krause and drum roll …. Marko Elez.
Virginia Congressman Don Beyer, critical of DOGE’s mandate, responding to Elez’ resignation, described it as ‘a scandal.’
‘Elon Musk gave a self-described ‘racist’ and eugenicist access to a system that controls all financial payments from the U.S. Treasury,’ he said, the dailymail reported.
‘That system also contains the personal information including Social Security info of every American.
‘This is why we have a process to vet civil servants, and why we hire and promote them based on merit, not their personal relationship to some rich guy.
‘How dare Elon Musk bully and threaten good people who spent their careers serving the American people when he brings this level of gross incompetence to his work.’
He demanded everyone who was involved in hiring Elez be ‘fired’ and said DOGE ‘should be deleted’ in its entirety.
The episode comes after social media firestorm following Elon Musk seemingly giving a Nazi salute in front of MAGA followers late January along with Musk’s unapologetic support for Germany’s far right, AFD party, who face wide rebuke in that nation.
Musk has also faced criticism for his decision to hire a hand-picked team of young, college aged men to help him purge federal agencies and eliminate waste.
This week, six men aged between 19 and 25 specializing in hacking and engineering were publicly identified as ‘key’ DOGE employees, WIRED reported.
Responded Musk on his X platform: ‘Time to confess: Media reports saying that DOGE has some of world’s best software engineers are in fact true.’
Akash Bobba, 21, Ethan Shaotran, 22, and Luke Farritor, 23, and Edward Coristine, 19 have reportedly been granted A-suite level clearance and access to all IT government systems.
Efforts are now underway to investigate the six employees and uncover what bias, cult leanings and ideology that newly brought on Elon Musk disciples may have.
