An Indiana man has allegedly confessed to shooting his estranged pregnant wife, no less than five times, nearly killing her after finding out her unborn baby wasn’t his.

Jeremy McBride, 36, of Indianapolis, is accused of shooting his estranged 5 months ‘pregnant’ wife, Kayla Netherland, 25, a teacher at the Quality Preschool, nearly killing her, after finding out that her unborn baby wasn’t his. The baby nevertheless, didn’t survive the assault.

On Thursday, Jan. 23, McBride was charged with the attempted murder of Netherland and feticide (terminates human pregnancy w/intent other than to produce live birth) for her unborn child, according to court records, Fox 59 reported.

Estranged husband had gone to shooting range practicing firing

Citing a probable cause affidavit, WISH-TV reported that on Sunday, Jan. 19, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a home in the 700 block of Pleasant Run Parkway Drive North shortly after 6 p.m.

A neighbor had gone to the home to do laundry and discovered McBride ‘in the bathroom of the residence, standing next to an adult female who was lying on the ground bleeding’ and ‘no one else was in the residence,’ according to court documents.

Responding officers found the victim with gunshot wounds to her back. After being rushed to a hospital, doctors were able to determine that Netherland was 20 weeks pregnant.

McBride had fled the scene before police arriving on the scene.

McBride allegedly called 911 to confess to the shooting and was arrested within 30 minutes according to People Mag

McBride allegedly told police he purchased a gun before the shooting and spent days planning the crime. The 36-year-old allegedly practiced firing the weapon at a shooting range, intended to kill his estranged wife, the unborn foetus and intended to take his own life as well.

‘Certainly what is alleged is this person went to great lengths to carry out what he intended to do,’ Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said, Fox 59 reported.

Victim will never conceive again

Prosecutors claim to have found notes from McBride in which he ‘wrote of his frustrations with his estranged wife’s infidelity and his frustrations with their failed relationship.’

McBride reportedly admitted to being angry because ‘he and his wife hadn’t gotten divorced, yet she had gotten pregnant’ with another man’s child.

‘She was 5 months pregnant with her miracle baby, after several failed pregnancies in the past, and she has lost her baby due to this outrageous crime committed against her,’ her family told WRTV. ‘She is alive, and not paralyzed, thank God.’

Following her surgeries, her left ovary, left fallopian tube and more have been removed. It is unlikely the woman will ever be able to conceive ever again.

Posted Kayla on social media hours before she was shot; ‘Can’t believe we are already halfway through this pregnancy, I’m so ready to meet you sweet baby girl!”

McBride is due in court for his initial hearing on Friday, January 24.
