Robert Yott, NY author savagely assaults Trump supporter wearing MAGA hat at Bath supermarket in unprovoked attack. Victim has teeth knocked out. Author is known for his political novels.
A Donald Trump supporter donning a MAGA hat was viciously assaulted in a ‘random attack,’ at an upstate NY supermarket last week.
Arrested in the incident was NY author, Robert Yott, 60, who is alleged to have ‘beaten to a pulp’ the unnamed MAGA supporter at a Tops Friendly Market in Bath, near Buffalo.
The episode led to the victim having their teeth smashed out, the Bath Police Department said in a Facebook release.
A nation on edge and polarized
Responding officers arrived at the store just on 10am, Friday morning where they found the victim bleeding profusely from the mouth in the ‘un-provoked’ attack.
The two men are said not to have known each other or previously met, WETM reported citing police.
Noted a police report in part, ‘It was determined that [Yott]… initiated [the] confrontation with [the] stranger inside Tops, after becoming aggressive over the fact that the stranger was wearing a Trump 2024 hat.’
‘[Yott] punched the victim in the mouth and head several times, causing the victim’s teeth to be broken and mouth bloody.’
The incident is the latest in a series of violence and intimidating behaviour leading up to the November 5 U.S presidential elections.
Yott was charged with second-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
The latter is a misdemeanor, warranting a maximum sentence of up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
The assault charge, however, is much more severe, and could see the author spend the next several years in prison reports the dailymail.
Political history author
Yott is known in the community as a local author of a pair of military history books, the Wellsville Sun reported.
Among Yott’s books is one that pushes a conspiracy that ‘political leaders manipulated events [that] led up to the Civil War, the war itself and the Reconstruction era which followed.’
‘It is not by accident that the reader will notice similarities between political events of 150 years ago and today,’ an online synopsis reads.
‘And just like today, by capitalizing on the patriotism of the American people elected officials of yesteryear had fought to keep the country divided in order to ensure party preservation and push through their own agenda.’
Yott remained in custody at The Steuben County Jail, with the author being kept without bond.
The village of Bath has a population of roughly 5,500 people and is located in Steuben County, which has twice as many registered Republican voters as Democratic voters, according to state records.
