An Ohio man died while cliff-jumping at the Utah side of Lake Powell, on Thursday according to the National Park Service.
The body of Cory Ryan Ehrnschwender, 36, of Cincinnati was recovered Friday morning after the adventure sports enthusiast failed to resurface from a 50 foot cliff jump, officials said.
The Utah Department of Public Safety Dive Team located the dare-devil’s body using sonar. The man’s body was found in about 30 feet of water.
Jumps greater than 15 feet prohibited
Officials are currently investigating what led up to his death, with an autopsy being conducted by the Utah State Medical Examiner in Salt Lake.
‘People who recreate on or around Lake Powell are advised it is prohibited to jump or dive off rock cliffs, ledges, or man-made structures (excluding vessels) from a height of 15 feet or more from the surface of the water,’ the agency warned.
