K’Von Morgan, Petersburg, Virginia 10 year old boy killed by stray bullets while watching TV at Pecan Acres apartment complex. No arrests as vigil is held for boy.

‘He still had his whole life ahead of him.’ A 10-year-old boy was shot and killed while watching TV with his best friend inside his family’s Virginia home earlier this month after stray bullets entered the family home. To date authorities have yet to make an arrest in the case.

K’Von Morgan was struck by stray bullets while sitting on his bed watching television with his best friend, according to a GoFundMe set up last week by the slain fifth-grader’s family.

‘It makes no sense that a child had to lose his life by being inside his bedroom, doing what he was doing, and preparing to go to bed for the night. It’s ridiculous,’ Petersburg Police Chief Travis Christian said, according to NBC 12.

‘Senseless gun violence’

K’Von was shot by someone outside the Pecan Acres apartment complex in Petersburg — an area Christian described as a family neighborhood where children should be able to safely play — just before 1 a.m. June 17, police said in a release.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries, police said.

Police are reviewing security footage and surveying the area trying to locate any individuals involved.

‘We’re looking for those individuals, not only those who did it, but we’re really looking for the individuals who know what happened,’ Christian said.

Morgan was not involved in the incident going on outside, Christian added.

‘Christian’s death is the result of senseless gun violence,’ the police chief added.

‘I don’t even know how you’re sleeping right now.’

Dozens of community members gathered outside the Pecan Acres Apartment complex in a vigil on Wednesday in support of K’Von’s family, NBC 12 reported.

Community and family members had gathered during the vigil to remember the memory of K’von, along with reflecting on the severity of the crime.

‘Somebody is feeling guilty right now somebody,’ said Perry Morgan, K’Von’s dad. ‘I don’t even know how you’re sleeping right now.’

‘He was amazing, full of energy and always had a smile on his face,’ the father said.

K’Von was a rising fifth-grader at Pleasant Lane Elementary School, according to his obituary.

‘My nephew [K’Von] did not deserve this by no means necessary,’ his uncle, Corey Friar, wrote on GoFundMe. ‘He still had his whole life ahead of him [and] was the light in every dark room.’

‘He was amazing, full of energy, always smiling regardless of the situation. He always had a smile,’ his father said.

While the boy’s family and community continue to grieve his sudden death, police are looking for any and all leads on a potential shooter.

‘We need those fingers pointed at that individual so that we can bring this case to a close and bring that person to justice for the family,’ the police chief told WTVR-TV.
