A man in the U.S illegally has been arrested after surveillance video captured him dumping a German Shepherd dog along a Dallas country road in broad daylight last week.
Ramiro Zuniga, 41, was arrested Saturday and charged with a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge, stemming from an incident that shocked locals last Wednesday evening.
The video, which was recorded by the animal rescue group the Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission, showed an adult male, since identified as Zuniga, abandoning the dog by Dowdy Ferry Road and Teagarden Road before speeding off, even as witnesses yelled at him.
As the man drove off, the bewildered dog briefly chased after the white Chevrolet SUV into oncoming traffic. The canine avoided being hit, however, thanks to the alert and caring citizens who witnessed the abandonment in the first place.
The suspect according to Dallas police abandoned the dog around 6:04 p.m. on Wednesday. The animal was recovered in good condition.

In an update over the weekend, the Dallas Police Department said that they took the wanted man into custody after police were able to trace Zuniga’s vehicle to his home and execute a search warrant the next morning following the release of video on Friday.
‘On March 11, 2023, the Dallas Police Department’s Southeast CRT team executed a search warrant on Zuniga’s home, locating the vehicle used in the crime, and Zuniga was taken into custody,’ police said.
Zuniga was booked at the Dallas County Jail on the cruelty to non-livestock animals misdemeanor charge. While bond was set at $4,000, jail records indicate Zuniga remaining in custody on an immigration hold requested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
It remained unclear as to which country the illegal immigrant originally hailed from, how long the man had been in the U.S and what led to the presumed dog owner dumping the German Shepherd in the first place.
