Dallas man dumps German Shepherd on country road wanted as police now seek to identify individual abandoning animal on country road and driving away. Yet to be located.
Who is he? Texas authorities are seeking to locate a man caught on surveillance video seemingly dumping his German Shepherd dog by the side of a country road in Dallas and then driving off as the alarmed animal proceeds to chase after the vehicle.
Video captured (see below) the moment an unidentified man driving a white Chevrolet SUV pulled over on the side of a stretch of road, opened up his back hatch, and pushed the dog out of the vehicle along Dowdy Ferry Road.
A bystander across the street could be heard yelling at the man as he proceeded to dump the dog and get back into his vehicle – driving away quickly as the bewildered and frightened animal attempted to chase after his owner.
The whole incident was captured by cameras placed on the road by the Dowdy Ferry Animal Commission. The cameras were strategically placed for situations like these, with Dallas Police now hunting for the dog’s owner.
‘It makes me sick to my stomach when I see people that will take the time to take their dog, drive out here, and throw it out like trash like Dowdy Ferry is known for,’ Jeremy Boss with the local animal organization told WFAA.
Desperate animal chases after dog owner to no avail
The surveillance footage came from near the intersection of Dowdy Ferry Road and Teagarden Road and happened around 6.45pm Wednesday.
Hidden cameras along the stretch of the street – which officials told WFAA is notorious for similar events – show the man push the dog out of the car and taking off.
At one point, a person across the road yells out in an effort to stop him.
‘Hey, uh uh, no,’ the person yells. ‘Hey, uh uh.’
The man looks up at the person across the street and continues to get back into his car, turn the vehicle on, and pull away as fast as he can.
The discarded dog looks on and follows the man around to the driver’s side of the car, barking at him as he leaves him behind.
As the man pulls away, the dog chases after him down the street, narrowly avoiding a collision with a vehicle on the other side of the road.
Why not take pet dog to animal shelter?
‘That was an intentional dump and he did not want to be caught. And he did not want that dog and he made that clear,’ said Boss.
Several bystanders who watched the situation go down were able to get to the German Shepherd dog and call local officials for assistance.
Dallas Animal Services was able to pick up the dog Wednesday evening.
Police are now searching for the suspect who could be charged in this incident.
In Texas, dumping of an animal is considered a Class A misdemeanor.
‘A crime like this is one of those that’s so random that we need the public’s help when they see something like, in this case, something suspicious, or they see an act like this taking place,’ Dallas Police Department representative Brian Martinez told WFAA.
Not immediately clear is why the un-identified man simply didn’t take the German Shepherd to animal shelter in the hope of the animal being placed with a new owner.
Anyone with information on Wednesday’s incident is asked to call the Dallas Police Animal Cruelty Division at 469-504-3394.
