Miranda Perez Lake Worth Beach, Florida mother arrested after threatening shooting at Barton elementary school following district’s rezoning via Facebook video.

A West Palm Beach, Florida woman ‘upset’ by her local school district rezoning plans has been arrested for allegedly threatening to shoot up the elementary school her children were being moved to, according to a report.

Miranda Perez, 28, is accused of making the threatening remarks aimed at Barton Elementary School in Lake Worth Beach during a Facebook video chat with a friend circa 8 a.m. Sunday, WPTV reported.

‘I’m thinking of doing a school shooting at Barton,’ Perez wrote on a Facebook message after the video chat, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Barton referred to Barton Elementary School, located at 1700 Barton Road in Lake Worth Beach, which is the school Perez’s children were being moved to abcactionnews reported.

The mother’s comments were reported the authorities, though it’s unclear who reported her.

Perez confessed to sending the messages when interviewed by detectives, while insisting, ‘they were empty threats’.

Added the mother according to an arrest report, ‘she did think about shooting the school, but claimed she would never actually do it.’

During the original video chat, Perez also said she planned to send a Facebook friend request to Zachary Cruz ‘because she likes ‘violent things,” according to the arrest report.

Of note- Zachary Cruz is the brother of 20-year-old Nikolas Cruz — the confessed mass murderer who in 2018 slaughtered 17 people at Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

‘This is a great example of the importance of bringing forward information about things you see on social media,’ reflected Palm Beach County School District Police Chief Frank Kitzerow.

Following her arrest- Perez was booked into the Palm Beach County jail on a charge of sending a written threat to commit bodily injury. She’s being held on $5,000 bond.
