What led to Robert Hodges a West Sacramento man to murder the three children of his wife? A history of domestic violence.
The man’s arrest came shortly after midnight early Thursday morning, after a fleeing Hodges was pulled over along Interstate 80.
On the way to the apartment, identified as the Timbers Apartments on Touchstone Place, police received a second call, saying that the children in the apartment were possibly dead.
Despite efforts by responding teams to revive the children, all three were pronounced dead at the scene reported the Sacramento Bee.
Police say Hodges was married to the children’s mother, but it’s unclear if he was their father. By the time police arrived at the home, Holdges had already fled.
West Sacramento police Sgt. Roger Kinney said the mother witnessed the killings, and that she, too, was a victim of domestic violence.
‘Obviously, she’s traumatized, and it’s going to take some time to find out what’s going on,’ Kinney said.
Speaking to kcra, local resident, Theresa Bustamante expressed shock of news of the triple homicide.
Told the woman, ‘No fighting, no nothing. (These apartments are) so quiet. I was in my apartment all the time. I was watching my movies and I didn’t hear nothing,”
Detectives will investigate whether there was a history of domestic violence at the home.
Police have not released details on how the children died. They also have not revealed their ages or genders.
That said, it is understood two of the murdered children attended nearby Southport Elementary School.
Hodges is expected to be booked on three charges of murder and one county of domestic violence. The father is expected to be arraigned on Monday.
