Reiterating the press statement, the Whitney’s mission pursuant to Tuesday’s festivities include the following:
‘The Whitney Art Party raises critical funds to support the Whitney’s Independent Study Program, which provides a setting within which students pursuing art practice, curatorial work, art historical scholarship, and critical writing engage in ongoing discussions and debates that examine the historical, social, and intellectual conditions of artistic production. A silent auction will be held featuring 88 works by contemporary artists. The official groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for the morning of May 24th.’
