The club has stood for 122 years as a sanctuary, museum, and home-away-from-home for some of the most talented and respected names in theatre and the arts. The Lifetime Achievement Award has been given to only a select few masters; including Angela Lansbury, Helen Hayes, Christopher Plummer, Marian Seldes and Jason Robards.

Kevin was honored to join their ranks—even if “receiving a Lifetime Achievement award when I’m only at the halfway mark is incredibly worrying.”  Accepting the award, Spacey spoke with genuine humility and a love of the craft. He mixed anecdotes and classic theatrical jokes with a legitimate endorsement of the enduring legacy of theatre.

“Theatre creates a sense of family. Culture provides the magic of our experience.  The arts inspire, uplift, challenge and stimulate.”   He read from a letter of Edwin Booth, written to his daughter Edwina, announcing the idea to start the club in the first place.  “The idea of this club was born in 1888,” said Spacey.  “It’s still here. And so am I.”
