Maybe he didn’t steal an election, but Mayor Albert Huang, a suburbanite public official, and a former Boy Scout, has been released on $100,000 bail for snatching a woman’s purse, misdemeanor battery, and felony assault.
Huang, who says he ‘holds[s] [himself] to the ‘highest code of conduct,’ is calling it ‘a great misunderstanding between friends.’
As The Daily Mail reports, “The 35-year-old, who represents San Gabriel [California], had been arguing with the woman over money in a car park when he grabbed her purse and got into his sports utility vehicle.”
Which, in any case, makes San Gabriel one of the few places in America where you flee from a petty purse snatching in what’s probably a ‘fully loaded’ SUV.
The report continues, saying: “The woman was standing on the running board and reaching through the passenger window when Huang sped off, reaching speeds of up to 45mph for more than a quarter of a mile as the woman clung on.”
Let’s hope, for all our sakes, he’s never had a ‘great misunderstanding’ between backers or lobbyists… is it only a coincidence that contemporary politicians are committing the same petty crimes as the most vulgar of our common crooks? Or, with the internet, are we merely hyper-sensitized?
