Chinese Food never tasted better than this!

The initial event started off in Times Square in portable kitchens were hungry passer bys were treated to sublime tastings (although the privilege did set you back $60, and a bargain at that), before culminating in the grand winners (gold,silver and bronze for each of the 5 regions of cuisine) presenting their winning dishes to a packed room of well wishers and invited media. (thankfully I was excused from the media table and got to sit with the most delightful mainland China men I’d come across ever. Now these kids know and love their food)

Now to the torment. Of you missing out. For appetizers we had (see menu below, please don’t ogle for too long or you will leave a hole in your tongue…)-  five spice smoked fish, nanking salted duck, marinated prawns, sea conches in chilly oil, and scallops in fragrant scallion oil. Heaven kids. I mean it. And you missed out. Unlike me. The scallops were subtle and slid into the back of your mouth like a tangy french kiss. As for the salted duck, I had to fight China off for a second helping. Geesh!
