Nicholas K, the desert Victor.

For his personal graduation, Nicholas K went down to the trenches and came out with a desert victor. Rugged silks, roughened leathers, luxurious cashmeres folded into languid, devil-may-care, lengthy snoodies; delinquent olive, luscious, sleeveless hooded leather jackets…

Yes, it’s an army, nomad, androgynous vibe, yes, we might have seen it before, maybe the Capri lengths were different, maybe a few less sarouels pants before, but then again, it has been three-quarters-of a decade that we have been at war with Iraq, with Afghanistan, and maybe there is a little blasédness about our being at war, about the erosion of our belief in  notions like “we will prevail”, “we will conquer” and “we will overcome”; maybe as the years go by we are left wandering in the desert, faithless, landless – slowly turning into creatures of sullen survival, independent and sharp, self-sufficient and slotted-eyed, here we walk through the sanded storms, the baked-on terra-cottas of our shadowed cultures tightly secured in our weathered satchels, waiting for our new Atlantis, the golden city of tomorrow… We are transient wanderers, till the resolution, till the new dawn…

Well, Nicky here gave us something to sheath ourselves into, till the Eldorado arises, till we’re done walking away, floaty, rugged silhouettes inside the wind, the hail, into the cloying wrath of our gods… see you on the other side… the imaginary one…
