NYC.Last night Custo Barcelona sent some of his finest pieces to date jostling (sprinting?) down the Stage at Lincoln Center in anticipation of his new 2011 Spring/Summer look. With a look reminiscent of freedom fighters circa the re interpreted 1970′s Barcelona’s fierce girls had the whole audience slowly exhaling as vixen after vixen pounced the ramp with a retinue of candy and ice blue colored satin and dungaree hues with the occasional signature Barcelona ostrich feather shoulder or snake trail.
The first girl to thump the ramp could of have been excused for a sleek Barbie Doll vixen on a double shot of espresso as she high tailed into our imaginations with sleek forms, jostling feather tassels and skinny pants reminiscent of a 1970′s hippie chick looking to re assert her cool factor. What was interesting as girl after girl and the occasional lad followed suit (with hints of mock moxie in Barcelona’s signature kaleidoscope print jackets) was the lack of irony in the model’s expressions. Not a wink, a slight turn of the head or anything. This was redefined fashion for the serious minded and sleek intended, disco babe who doesn’t mind shocking men into submission as she struts past those velvet ropes.
