Last night saw one of the most overwhelming turnouts in memory in support of the Haiti effort that this author can recollect. Buttressed by the charismatic Melky Jean (the charter’s founder), and her guests- Patti Labelle, Wyclef Jean, the delightful and stunning Miss USA Rima Fakih, dandy Paul Johnson Calderon, rapper Trina and my new favorite polo player in the world -Nigerian beauty Neku Saliu-Atawodi, super models Ashley Graham , Naomi Preizler, the charter’s sponsors and benefactors and to be sure Ms Melky Jeans extended family who not only had come to support the vivacious cause but also Melky’s birthday- the event was a standout success.
Even before festivities had really begun to get on the way, press and paparazzi alike (let’s not even mention the guests who were kicking and screaming more than the press…) were clambering to edge a word, a snapshot, a handshake, a quiet moment with Patti Labelle and the gallant Melky Jean (who I imagine despite the presence of her husband caused many a men to swoon) as Veuve Clicquot champagne over flowed and paparazzi light bulbs set to overflow.
