Australia has long held it’s icons- From Dame Edna, Skippy the Bush Kangaroo, Bert Newton (and his crazy extended family), Gough Whitlam, Paul Hogan, Nicole Kidman and of course Adriana Xenides who died over the weekend, aged 54, when her intestine ruptured.
Already having suffered 5 heart attacks this year, the iconic beauty and one of the longest standing ‘Wheel of Fortune,’ models was not by any standards in good shape and yet when she finally passed one could hear a vicious pall being cast over Aussies as if they were being told going forward toast could never once again be eaten with Vegemite.
Even her former host and gladiator had this to say:
Former co-host John Burgess was by her bedside in the hours before she died.
“I just happened to be in Sydney, and I got a phone call from her cousin saying she was in a bad way and her intestines had burst,” Burgess said.
“She was taken to hospital and there was nothing they could do for her.
And really this is what it is sometimes, we spin, we hop and we play for keeps and even then sometimes we get the most unluckiest spins- We’ll miss you Adriana, even all the way from here in New York love.
