The art came alive.

As I watched two guys flail before this one-dimensional shrine (to the sound stylings of DJ Sir Shorty), I asked the artist, Holly Daggers, for the name of this crowd favorite. “Uhh… Thing I Created for Chelsea Art Museum?” she responded. I asked if she could control the movements of the piece. “I can ratchet it up or bring it down a bit, but that’s about it,” she said with a shrug, before she was struck by a new name for the piece. “Tribute to a Sea Anemone!” she exclaimed. Clearly this piece wasn’t about control… it was about creation—and permanent labels were limiting.

The sheer variety of art was impressive. Cassandra C. Jones’ digital photo loop Waxing and Waning (made up of photos found on Google) was a striking lunar love story, while So-Bin Park’s Creation of a New Female Myth impressively combined “the scaly darkness of a dragon against… the female beauty.” After all, who doesn’t love a little girl-on-dragon action?
