Last night I entered the A-list doors of Tela Design studio in the Meatpacking district, skipped the wine and went straight back stage. That’s where the action was: six beautiful models outfitted in their netted up does, makeup and prepared to manhandle three collections in fifteen minutes of runway time.

Organized by the Women’s Mafia, an elite social club made up of creative women that coordinates, sponsors and funds fashion, art and nightlife events all over the city, the Tela Design fashion show—Mafia’s signature event—is held annually. Founded “La Madrina” Marcy Clark—Mafia’s publicist and event planner, the show features designs created by the three winners of the “Are you Runway Ready” contest: Ardistia, Shauntele and Jonathan Kayne. “All the collections are so different—that’s what’s going to make the show spectacular!” said Sheryl Graham–Ardistia’s assistant designer.
