MAX AZRIA REDEEMS THEIR BRAND’S REPUTATION

Finally as the show begins my mood changes.  I can’t help it that I’ve become a kid in a candy shop when the music starts booming, the lights go low, then burst brightly, unveiling a gorgeous Amazon of a woman in next years fashion.  Watching the Max Azria line thump its way down the planks  literally blew me away.  Totally unexpected.  The BCBG show had been very, well, BCBG, with color blocks, use of drapery, and the likes.  I couldn’t even pay attention during the Herve Leger show out of pure anger. Now, the Max Azria show, WOW. Max and Lubov Azria nailed it.

Minimalistic is the best way to describe the collection. No wild prints, no color blocks, no color at all for that matter.  Instead, the garments were of “mineral tones” and exalted a completely high-end and elegant look.  A variety of materials were pieced together by remarkable tailoring to create abstract silhouettes. Leathers were matched with mesh, satins, and silks to provide contradicting textured surfaces, which, instead of a bold printed motif, told the story of line.
