Truthfully speaking, more game was happening off the field than on the green pastoral setting, hosting the most gloriously groomed horses one has ever seen. In addition, the only cocktail found was at the quintessential private corporate tables, which of course demanded another name on another guest list. As brilliantly quoted from a frequent guest of polo, “The event is all about picking someone up”…which leaves me to ponder where is the polo? And this is a fair question, “Where is the polo?”
The Mercedes Benz emblem does wonders to a group of anxious characters ready and willing to showcase importance, relentlessly passing out business cards to people willing to endure exhausting conversations while tailgating behind a row of white Phantoms, Bentleys, and Mercedes SUV’s. Even the comical ‘Lenny Kravitz look alike twins’ appeared perplexed when deciphering what they should be doing…obviously not watching polo.
At the end of the day, polo is a rich man’s pick up sport for frequent visitors to the Hamptons. However, there are a few respectful adoring fans that appreciate aggressive, highly skilled sportsmen who have mastered the art of propelling a quarter of an inch ball while galloping down an expansive ground equaling nine football fields. Cheers to those observers and props to everyone else who had a glorious time at polo.
