Maria Santos Flores, Bay Ridge mom & bartender may have been followed home before stabbed to death according to Brooklyn investigators. No arrests.

A teenage boy came home to find his mother dead with her throat slit in their Brooklyn home on Saturday morning, police said.

Authorities responding to the 911 call found Maria Santos Flores, 36, unconscious in the home on 85th Street in Bay Ridge at around 9:12 a.m., according to the NYPD.

Bay Ridge mom mystery fatal stabbing

Sanos Flores had a slash wound to the neck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the woman’s teenage son made the macabre discovery along with the victim’s sister.

The woman’s ‘devastated’ husband who was at work was notified of his wife’s death.

Santos Flores was a mother of two who worked overnight shifts according to her sister Angelica Flores.

‘I came to visit her and found her like this,’ the sister told the nypost. ‘She had just come home from work.’

According to the sibling, the family hailed from El Salvador.

‘She liked to help people and she took care of her family,’ she said. ‘We don’t understand what happened.’

Bay Ridge mom worked overnight shifts at nearby bar

The victim, 36, was a bartender and worked nights at Huatulco Sports Bar in Sunset Park, the family said.

‘The police aren’t telling us what happened yet,’ her husband Antonio Hernandez said. ‘We are waiting. We don’t know anything. There is a suspicion that someone followed her home from work.’

Neighbors told officers they heard screams coming from the home earlier in the morning, shattering what is normally a quiet, tree-lined block.

Neighbors speaking to CBSNY said that locals were long time living in the neighborhood and that everyone knew each other.

Residents said violent crime is rare in the area, and many were stunned to see detectives canvassing for surveillance footage

Police said there had been no arrests in the case and the motive to the fatal stabbing remained unknown.

There have been 111 citywide murders this year, compared to the 144 at the same time in 2025, according to the NYPD.

The city has seen a 23% drop in murders so far this year, to 111 from 144 at this point in 2025, the data show.
