A murder-suicide in Greensboro, North Carolina has led to 62 year old man shooting dead his 38 year old Brazilian born wife dead with a juvenile believed to be the couple’s son surviving the ordeal.
Notice of the tragedy came after the Greensboro Police Department in a Facebook release stating that they received a domestic disturbance call around 9.30 p.m, Friday night, November 21, which escalated into a standoff on Creekwood Drive, Guldford County, after a man inside the residence firing at responding officers.
What led to fatal domestic violence?
Following lengthy negotiations, crises negotiators were able to secure the safe release of a juvenile from the residence. Hours later, officers were able to make their way into the residence, circa 2.28 a.m, where they came across the bodies of Paul Arthur Merchant, 62, and his wife, Alessandra Amador Merchant, 38. Both husband and wife sustained gunshot wounds, the release stated.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say preliminary findings indicate a murder-suicide.
Alessandra Merchant’s death marks Greensboro’s 34th homicide of 2025. Police say next of kin have been notified.
No responding officers or special team members discharged their weapons, and no law enforcement personnel were injured during the incident.
Tributes paid on social media to Brazilian born wife
A regard of Alessandra Merchant’s Facebook page revealed her to be working for Bedrock Technology and originally hailing from Sao Paolo, Brazil and work at and be the mother of a young son who she shared with her husband. Images posted showed the couple being involved as early as 2012.
It remained unclear if the woman’s husband was the child’s biological father.

In the aftermath of the domestic violence, tributes were shared on social media.

Authorities had yet to say what led to the deadly domestic violence episode and whether there had been previous disturbances at the family’s residence.
