A helicopter crash in Canada’s Quebec’s Montérégie region over the weekend left four individuals dead.
The chopper went down just on 2.30 p.m, Saturday, in the Rang des Écossais rural sector of Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville, some 50 miles from Montreal after it had ‘experienced difficulties,’ according to Agence QMI.
Emergency crews, including firefighters, rushed to the scene.
Quebec chopper crash victims identified
At the time of the helicopter crash, four individuals were on board.
‘According to the initial assessment, the four occupants died,’ Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau told QMI.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the victims were identified as passenger and radio host, Gabriel Jasmin, his mother, Chantal Raymond along with brother in law, Loucas Perreault along with pilot, Suzanne Jutras, 50.
The entourage had set out to celebrate Raymond’s birthday when the chopper tragically crashed and caught fire.
Tributes pour in for victims
‘On Sept. 26, a part of my world flew away to heaven,’ Jasmin’s wife, Océane Perreault shared on Facebook.
‘I don’t have the words to describe the pain, the shock, and the emptiness I feel. Three people I love more than anything were taken from me far too soon, right before my eyes.’
Adding, ‘Lives can be altered in a fraction of a second. We never know when it might be our turn.’
Jasmin was a host of a show at a Sherbrooke-based radio station 106.1 Énergie. He has a one year old daughter with Perreault.
In posts and comments, the chopper’s pilot, Jutras was remembered as a passionate and talented pilot.
‘Thank you for lifting us into the air with your kindness,’ wrote Les Félixeries, a festival in the nearby Centre-du-Québec region, in a Facebook post remembering its ‘favourite pilot.’
What caused Quebec, Canada chopper crash?
Martin Perrault, Raymond’s husband, remembered his spouse of close to 40 years on social media.
‘We built a life, a family and so many memories together,’ he wrote.
He expressed his pain at losing his son — ‘my pride, my successor’ — and his son-in-law — ‘an extraordinary father, attentive and loving.’
‘I miss you all so much already,’ he wrote.
Canada authorities had yet to say what led to the chopper losing control and crashing.
An investigation by SQ’s Major Crimes Unit is underway. Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board were also on site Saturday.
