A California father and Mr. Olympia judge is alleged to have ‘accidentally’ run over and killed his six-year-old son while backing out with of the family driveway with his Tesla Cybertruck.
Terrick El Guindy, 48, of Temecula reportedly struck his son, Preston, shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday on Brookhaven Court near Highway 79.
The family immediately called 911, and Preston was rushed to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar. The boy would die from his injuries later that night, KESQ reported.
Mr Olympia judge questioned by authorities but not arrested
A GoFundMe organized by family friend Stefanie Chesbro described Preston as a joyful child who was loved by everyone around him.
‘To know Preston is to love him, ‘Chesbro wrote in part, ‘Always with a smile on his face he brings joy to everyone in his life.’
The family shared that Preston had recently started first grade last month. The 6-year-old leaves behind his parents and his sister, Scarlett.
El Guindy was questioned by authorities following the tragedy but was not arrested.
No dashboard alerts flashed or sounded to notify dad 6-year-old was in vehicle driveway
The California Highway Patrol confirmed that the Cybertruck was not operating in Autopilot mode and expressed condolences to the family.
‘The CHP extends its condolences to the family and all those affected by this tragic loss,’ CHP Officer Jesus Garcia stated.
Apparently no dashboard alerts flashed or sounded to notify the man that his young son was in the vehicle’s path. It remained unclear if the Tesla vehicle was equipped with such sensors or ought to have been equipped.
Guindy was questioned by officers, but there was evidently no indication of intoxication.
The tragedy highlights growing nationwide warnings about the unique blind-zone hazards posed by large, high-profile vehicles.
El Guindy is well known in the bodybuilding community. He serves as a judge for the Mr. Olympia competition, where judges evaluate top professional bodybuilders. He is also the host of Prime Time Muscle and Olympia TV, where he regularly discusses and shares opinions on the bodybuilding industry.
Following Chris Bumstead’s retirement in 2024, El Guindy compared the six-time Mr. Olympia champion’s impact on bodybuilding to that of Arnold Schwarzenegger, saying Bumstead had helped bring renewed attention to the sport.
Of note, Tesla declined to comment on the tragedy.
