4-year-old Kentucky girl died in a freak accident when she fell off an attachment being pulled by a tractor only to be run over by the vehicle.
Hellayna ‘Layna’ Michelle King was at her family’s farm riding on an attachment rigged to the back of a tractor when the vehicle stopped suddenly, causing her to fall forward onto the ground. The tractor then backed over her, killing the four year old girl.
The tragedy happened on Wednesday, Sept. 2, along Red River Road, according to Clark County Coroner Neal Oliver.
4-year-old Kentucky girl remembered
The dying girl’s family then ‘had to sit there 45 minutes with her’ waiting for help because of a nearby road closure, while she was in pain, her aunt, LaDonna Lovings told WKYT.
Hellayna, accoridng to her obituary who was described as being ‘full of life,’ was one of four children.
‘The farm was a special place for Layna, and she especially loved the cows,’ the obit stated. ‘She also loved to sing, filling the days with her sweet voice and happy spirit.
‘Whether she was outside playing, helping on the farm, or singing a favorite song, Layna embraced life with an energy and happiness that will be deeply missed by everyone who loved her.’
The obit further stated ‘Layna’ was the daughter of Dalton King and Rebecca Lovings King.
GoFundme launched amid questions of parenting and ‘dumb luck’
Hellayna was to turn 5th just less than a month away on Oct. 5. the girl’s aunt said.
‘Words can’t express how much we miss her,’ Lovings told WKYT. ‘You know accidents happen all the time, and you just don’t think it’s going to happen to you.’
‘If the bridge had been open, it would’ve taken them maybe 15, 20 minutes to get there,’ she said of rescuers. ‘And you know, it may have made a difference, and it may not have made a difference — but the fact that somebody was there to try and help her would’ve made a difference.’
Stated a GoFundme launched on behalf of Hellayna, ‘We are so heartbroken we have lost our world and don’t know how to carry on with our lives.’
Added Hellayna’s mother, Rebecca Lovings, ‘But somehow [we] have to find a way as we have 3 other children who count on us everyday.’
The tragedy has since led to some, including this author, wondering whether it was necessarily a good idea to be pulling the young child in a trolley behind the heavy farming machine?
Others meanwhile wondered how many other times such an activity would’ve been ‘fun and memorable’ only for ‘dumb luck’ to intervene and tragedy to happen.
