A beloved father-of-three has been identified as the third victimof a fatal mass shooting at an In-N-Out burger joint in Iowa over the weekend, which also left his wife severely injured.

Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City, Utah and his wife Reinette Schultz, had stopped at the Twin Falls eatery on their way home from a family reunion at around 2.30pm on Saturday when Chad Williams, 24, fired an AK-style rifle at customers and employees before turning the gun on himself.

The shooting also took the lives of Ashley Garibay, 23, of Stockton, California, an employee at the restaurant, and a customer named Christopher Claunch, 59, while seven others were left injured.

The shooting only came to an end when after two armed good Samaritans shot back at Williams in the restaurant’s parking lot. The gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after two armed good Samaritans opened fire on him, NBC reported.

Family reunion trip turns to tragedy for Salt Lake City, Utah couple

Dale, an Air Force veteran, mortally succumbed to his injuries four days after the shooting, while Reinette has been forced to undergo back to back surgery.

The surviving spouse has undergone at least two reconstructive surgeries along with being treated for extensive shoulder injuries. Reinette now mourns the loss of her husband.

‘It kind of comes in waves. It sort of ebbs and flows,’ Scott Dodge, a deacon at St Olaf’s Catholic Church, told KUTV of Reinette’s recovery.

He went on to say she has ‘good moments,’ but then the ‘overwhelming reality of the tragedy,’ including what happened to Dale, is ‘crushing.’

Prayer vigil for beloved Salt Lake City husband and father

Around 100 people gathered at a prayer vigil for Schultz at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Bountiful, Utah, Tuesday night, where attendees remembered him as a devoted husband, father of three and grandfather of two.

An online fundraiser has since been set up to support Reinette with her medical expenses and the costs related to Dale’s funeral.

It reveals that she is ‘facing many surgeries and a long period of physical and emotional recovery.’

‘The trauma of this event has left her not only with medical bills, but also the overwhelming challenge of mourning Dale’s passing,’ reads the fundraiser, which had raised nearly $40,000 for the family by Wednesday evening.

‘Dale was a beloved member of the family, remembered for his kindness and the love he shared with Reinette,’ it notes. ‘Their lives were changed in an instant.’

A lifelong love affair comes to a tragic end

Dale and Reinette had been together since they were just 15 years old, his brother, Jackson, told KTVB.

‘I would have said that he was the best of the Schultzes,’ the grieving brother asserted about their family. ‘He was a man’s man and the best father that I know to his kids.’

‘All they had to do was call and ask him. He was there, always,’ added Jackson’s wife, Brenda.

The couple had planned to spend their retirement years taking trips.

‘We were talking about vacations we could go on,’ Jackson recounted. ‘And that’s gone.’

Others in the Salt Lake community remembered Dale as an accomplished artist and an avid pickleball player who was ‘competitive but with a lot of patience in teaching people, especially young people,’ according to Dodge, who has been friends with the couple for 25 years.
