Jasmine Miranda, Anaheim, California woman left for dead by boyfriend, Oscar Velasquez who now faces murder charge after she was found deceased at motel after welfare check.
A man suspected of killing his girlfriend faces murder charges after the woman’s body was found at an Anaheim motel, California authorities stated.
Jasmine Miranda, 38, of Anaheim, CA., was found dead at the Kona Motel at 331 N. Brookhurst Street just before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18 when police arrived for a welfare check.
The room was supposed to be checked out of on Tuesday morning. When no one came to the office to check out, staff requested police perform a welfare check, where upon the macabre discovery was made.
What brought Anaheim couple to motel?
Miranda according to Orange County Register was discovered with traumatic injuries. Not immediately clear is when Miranda was last seen alive and how long she had been dead. Her cause and manner of death was now pending an autopsy.
The victim’s boyfriend, Oscar Velasquez, 43, was implicated in Miranda’s murder.
‘Through an extensive investigation, witness interviews and review of surveillance footage, detectives identified Velasquez as the suspect,’ police told the outlet.
Investigators said Velasquez and the victim were in a dating relationship.
Using license plate reader technology, detectives were able to identify Velasquez’s car and located him on Aug. 19 in Santa Ana where he was arrested for murder.
The circumstances leading up to the woman’s death remain under investigation.
Extensive violent criminal background
Police said that Velasquez has an ‘extensive criminal background, including prior convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, narcotics violations, and possession of firearms.’
Authorities declined to say what led to the pair staying at motel.
An arraignment hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21. The case was referred to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
