A Missouri mother and her teenage daughter have died after being shot inside their House Springs home during an alleged neighbor dispute that turned deadly.
Jessica Lashly, 38, and her 17-year-old daughter, Jersey Greer, died Monday, several days after they were critically injured in the July 25 shooting on Doetzel Drive. Family members said the two were removed from life support while surrounded by relatives and loved ones, FOX2Now reported.
Investigators with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said 73-year-old Robert Winkelman allegedly walked from his home across the street to the Lashly residence, Saturday night and confronted Jessica Lashly over activity at the property.
Noise dispute leads to Missouri mom and teen daughter dying of gunshot wounds
While authorities have not confirmed the exact nature of the dispute, it was reportedly connected to complaints about activity at the home, possibly including noise concerns. Officials said the confrontation escalated, with Winkelman taking out a gun and shooting Lashly before doing the same to her daughter after she tried to intervene.
Both victims suffered gunshot wounds to the head and were rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save them, their injuries proved fatal.
Deputies said Winkelman was found outside his own home when law enforcement arrived. Officials allege that he shot himself as deputies approached. He was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition.
Winkelman was initially charged with two counts of first-degree assault and two counts of armed criminal action. Following the deaths of Lashly and Greer, authorities said they will be seeking additional charges.
Teen daughter hailed hero for risking life trying to protect mom
Family members did not want to discuss the crime, except to point out Jersey’s bravery.
‘Even in the last moments, she knew that she had to protect others, and that’s just what she does,’ Christina Greer, Jersey’s aunt told FOX2.
Jersey Greer, a student-athlete at Northwest High School, was remembered by family, friends and teammates as a caring and determined teenager. She played lacrosse for the school and was described as someone who had a close relationship with her twin sister while balancing academics, athletics and family life.
