Lucas Trejo Argentine soccer star wife, Yanina Maranella and their 2 kids found dead following 72-hour search after Venezuela earthquakes that left 1,430 dead and thousands missing.

The wife and two young children of Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo have been found dead following a 72-hour search in the afterath of devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela this week.

Trejo’s wife, Yanina Maranella, and the couple’s children, Aarón and Ainhoa, were among the victims of the powerful 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes that rocked the country on Wednesday. The disaster has claimed at least 1,430 lives, while tens of thousands of people remain missing as rescue crews continue searching through the rubble for survivors.

Family friend and fellow soccer player Edson Tortolero confirmed the tragic news on Instagram, writing that the bodies of Trejo’s loved ones had been found Saturday night along with asking for privacy and prayers for the grieving family.

Trejo’s club, Club Sport Marítimo de La Guaira, also released a statement confirming that the star player’s wife and children were found deceased.

‘Peace to their souls and comfort for Lucas and all his loved ones,’ the club posted.

The 38-year-old defender, who joined the club earlier this year after spending much of his career playing in Venezuela, had been desperately searching for his family alongside his father and brother, who traveled from Argentina to help with rescue efforts.

Just days before the heartbreaking discovery, Trejo had shared a family photo on social media while pleading for prayers and holding onto hope that they would be found alive.

In April, Trejo had publicly wished his wife a happy birthday, writing that she made ‘everything easier and more beautiful’ and calling her a blessing to their family.

Since the earthquakes hit, Jorge Rodriguez, the leader of Venezuela’s National Assembly, announced in a press conference that the death toll has risen to 1,430.

In addition to those who were found deceased, more than 2,300 people were injured and more than 3,000 were left homeless.

Rescue operations continue across Venezuela as emergency crews race against time to locate survivors, though officials acknowledge that hopes of finding more people alive diminish with each passing hour.
