A gathering for 404 celebrations over the weekend at an Atlanta, Georgia area park led to a 16-year-old girl being shot dead along with a second teen girl suffering from gunshot wounds.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers were dispatched to Piedmont park shortly after 9:00 p.m. following reports of gunfire.

Officers conducting a search of the area came across Tianah Robinson a 16-year-old girl who had also been shot along with a 15-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

404 celebrations at Atlanta park had attracted thousands of attendees

Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Robinson of Riverdale was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second teen, whose identity was not released continues to recover in hospital.

The shooting occurred near Lake Clara Meer, in the heart of the park around 9 p.m., soon after a festival there celebrating the city’s 404 Day, which drew thousands of people, wrapped up.

Atlanta News First reported the slain girl attending North Clayton High School.

Shooting happened at off site 404 event not officially permitted

Homicide detectives who have since taken over the investigation are seeking to determine the sequence of events that led to the shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that the incident was not connected to an officially permitted 404 Day event, which had taken place on the opposite side of the park and concluded earlier in the evening at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Instead, investigators believe the shooting may have stemmed from an unpermitted gathering occurring near the far west end of the park.

Authorities have not yet identified any suspects or made any arrests, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

It is also unknown whether the victims were specifically targeted.

Teen takeover including teens wearing ski masks led to shootings

A witness told Atlanta News First that there was also a ‘teen takeover’ event in the park Saturday night.

‘Teenagers walked in with backpacks and ski masks,’ Deric Bebee told the outlet.

Soon enough, shots rang out.

‘They don’t know who let them shots off,’ he said.

Atlanta has been plagued from a rash of shootings as of late, including gun violence connected to ‘teen takeovers’ in several metro areas.

Police said that there was no connection between the shooting and the event.

In a Facebook post, 404 Day organizers said, ‘We want to reassure our community that every member of our team worked closely with our security and local authorities to keep our patrons safe. We are deeply saddened by what occurred and remain committed to supporting our community in any way we can.’

Police are urging anyone who attended the gathering or who may have captured photos or video of the incident to come forward.

Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Atlanta Police Department or Crime Stoppers as the investigation remains active and ongoing.
