A slaying at a Mobile, Alabama home has left a mother, her young son, pregnant teen daughter and an unborn child dead as family members seek answers in the aftermath.

Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch identified the victims as Lisa Gail Ferguson, 46, Keziah Luker, 17, and Thomas Cordelle, 12.

Luker was eight months pregnant and also had an 18 month old that was left unharmed, Burch said according to AL.com.

Welfare check request following unusual phone activity

All three victims lived at the residence where the bodies were found, the official told media.

The family members were found dead inside their residence early Monday morning in the Wilmer community the official said according to WDAM. The sheriff said all three victims had their hands bound behind them with zip ties or flex cuffs.

The investigation began around 2:30 a.m. when a concerned family member was asked to check on the residence located in the 7900 block of Auble Moody Road. Authorities said the concern originated from the father of Luker’s young child and unborn baby, who works offshore.

He reportedly became alarmed after noticing unusual activity on Luker’s phone through the Life360 tracking application during the early morning hours, prompting fears that something may have been wrong.

A relative who responded to the home entered and made the macabre discovery, immediately contacting authorities.

Sheriff Burch stated that all three victims were found in separate rooms and had been restrained using zip ties or flex cuffs, indicating a controlled and coordinated attack.

Ferguson suffered multiple stab wounds and had her throat slit. Luker was fatally shot, while 12-year-old Thomas Cordell’s throat was cut, and he sustained injuries consistent with near decapitation.

Investigators believe the victims were specifically targeted; however, a clear motive has not yet been established.

Sheriff Burch indicated that the case does not appear to be domestic-related.

Authorities also noted there were no signs of forced entry into the home and no evidence suggesting the victims were able to resist their attackers.

‘We would presume there was more than one individual involved, given the ability to restrain and isolate three victims,’ Burch stated, adding that the use of restraints strongly suggests premeditation. ‘It indicates there was a plan going into this.’

Mystery motive

While officials have not confirmed a motive, the sheriff acknowledged that investigators are exploring the possibility that illegal drugs may have played a role in the incident.

He noted that although no significant quantities of drugs or cash were recovered at the scene, there were indications that the perpetrators may have been searching for something inside the home.

‘I’m not making assumptions or ruling anything out,’ Burch said. ‘But it is certainly a factor we are considering.’

Investigators do not have any suspects. ‘At this point, we do not suspect any domestic- or family-type situation,’ Burch said.

What was perpetrator searching for?

The sheriff said the home has been ‘gone through’ and was left in disarray. ‘Someone was searching for something.’

Authorities emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that detectives are actively pursuing credible leads, KBTX reported.

Sheriff Burch expressed confidence in the progress being made, stating that investigators are working diligently to identify and apprehend those responsible.

‘I feel confident we will have those responsible in custody soon,’ he said.
