A Miami-based lifestyle influencer who had recently become engaged and was celebrating her 31st birthday on a luxury trip to Tanzania has been found dead, with local officials stating the cause of death as suicide, a ruling that friends and family reject.
Ashly Robinson aka Ashlee Jenae, 31, who called herself a ‘soft life divestor’ on Instagram (@ashleejenae, also @xoashleyjenae), was found dead at the Serval Wildlife Resort in Tanzania. The social media influencer is stated to have died by hanging, her death discovered by her fiancee.

Jenae had traveled to the African nation on April 5 to celebrate her 31st birthday along with her recent engagement to fiancee, Joe McCann founder of Asymmetric Financial.
The couple were staying at a luxury villa at Zuri Zanzibar, where McCann proposed during the trip, TMZ reported.
In posts shared on Instagram, Jenae documented moments from the vacation, including a video of the proposal during a safari.
Her final post, dated April 5, showed her feeding a giraffe, with ‘HBD Ashlee’ spelled out in rose petals. She captioned it: ‘Chapter 31 and I’m exactly where I need to be.’

News of the influencer’s suicide death has since led to questions with social media commentators pointing to photos Jenae had posted in the days prior to her death showing her smiling and visibly happy.
Jenae according to friends and family said she showed no signs of distress and was at one of the highest points of her life. Her death has now led to some suspecting possible foul play and demanding local authorities further investigate the circumstances leading to her death.
Causing disconcert are claims that Jenae was initially found hanging from a tree rather than inside her hotel room, contradicting what initial reports suggested about the location. Others have alleged that McCann waited approximately two days before notifying authorities or reaching out to Jenae’s family.
Some followers are alleging that Ashlee had been warned about her fiancé in the past. Commenters claim that ‘her man appeared dangerous and that there were red flags in the relationship that friends had noticed long before this trip.’

Victim of foul play? Fiancee declines to address death
Some netizens speculate Jenae may have been murdered and that Joe possibly staged the scene to make it appear as a suicide, with some even suggesting it could have been meant to resemble a hate crime.
Tanzania officials to date have not publicly commented on the social media influencer’s death.
Jenae’s family has publicly asked for transparency and a complete accounting of what happened during those final days in Tanzania.
Stated the family in part in a released statement to The Shade Room:
‘Nothing about this loss feels real. One moment she was celebrating love and life in truly Ashly fashion, and the next, she was gone. The suddenness, the unanswered questions, and the distance from home have made this tragedy even more overwhelming for our family. At this time, there is an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ashly’s suspicious passing. Although we have many questions, we are placing our trust in the officials in Zanzibar and are working closely with them as we seek clarity and answers.’
McCann to date has not publicly commented on the death of Jenae.
