Darlene Ibarra, San Antonio, Texas woman dies after fatally struck by rideshare driver who accidentally stepped on accelerator instead of brake. No charges expected. 

A San Antonio, Texas woman has died after she was fatally struck by an Uber driver over the weekend after the rideshare driver accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake and jumped a curb.

Darlene Ibarra, 35, was struck while standing at a Northwest Side San Antonio intersection, early Saturday afternoon, police said.

San Antonio police said officers and emergency crews were called about 1:09 p.m. March 14 to the intersection of West Quill Drive and Bandera Road for a reported vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash.

No criminality after rideshare driver accidentally hits gas pedal instead of brake

Investigators said the male Uber driver was traveling south on West Quill with a passenger when he attempted to turn onto Bandera Road and accidentally accelerated instead of braking. The vehicle went onto the sidewalk and struck Ibarra, who was standing on the corner holding an advertising sign, KSAT reported citing police.

Ibarra was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the driver remained at the location, cooperated with investigators and is not expected to face charges, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

The crash occurred along a busy stretch of Bandera Road where city and state officials have discussed safety improvements amid ongoing growth and traffic on the corridor.

The identity of the rideshare driver was not publicly revealed.

Posted the victim’s sister, Crystal Ibarra in the aftermath: ‘Today was an extremely devastating day for me and my family! My little sister Darlene went with our Heavenly Father today. Many of yall know her and she had an amazing heart! This is so surreal!

‘I just want to touch her warm face one more time, hear that laugh, see that beautiful smile, hear her voice….i just want to scream my heart out!!’
