Christian Barrios guns down Melissa Woods ex girlfriend and new boyfriend Jason Chatham at Ponte Vedra, Florida, Walgreen parking lot.
A Florida man is accused of shooting his ex girlfriend and her new boyfriend dead at a Walgreens parking lot near TPC Sawgrass in St Johns County.
Christian Barrios, 32, is alleged to have traveled Friday night to Walgreens at 860 A1A North in Ponte Vedra to confront his ex girlfriend, Melissa Wood, 46, and her new boyfriend, Jason Chatham, 42, both of Atlantic Beach over alleged infidelity.
Upon arriving at the scene, just on 10.30 p.m, an arrest warrant described Barrios ‘immediately and frantically’ exiting a vehicle and walking over to another vehicle before gunshots ringing out.
Following the shooting, Wood and the other victim, ‘who were shot multiple times’ were taken to Baptist Beaches Medical Center, where they died, according to the warrant.
Barrios fled the scene after stealing a vehicle before eventually being taken into custody early Saturday morning. It was later revealed Barrios had arrived at Walgreens where he believed he would find his ex and her new lover after calling his mother ‘and giving him a ride.’
Upon his arrest, Barrios was booked on two counts of first-degree murder, shooting into an occupied conveyance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, burglary to an occupied dwelling and grand theft of a motor vehicle according to Jacksonville.com.
Barrios who has 20 prior arrests was previously arrested in 2020 for allegedly punching a woman who was nine months pregnant, WJAX-TV reported.
According to a GoFundMe campaign for Wood, the 46-year-old leaves behind two children, and had ‘just become a grandma barely a year ago,’ according to her brother, Jeremy Hackward.
Hackward in the fundraiser described Barrios an ‘insecure, jealous ex-boyfriend.’
A vigil is being held for Melissa on Friday, March 20 at Mickler’s Landing in Ponte Vedra at 6 p.m.
