Lafayette Parish murder-suicide: Brett Richardson, Youngsville, Louisiana man shoots and kills wife Kasie Richardson and six year old son then self. No known motive. 

A Lafayette Parish man in Louisiana is accused of shooting and killing his wife and young son before turning the murder weapon on himself in an apparent double murder-suicide in unincorporated Lafayette Parish near Youngsville on Sunday, authorities said.

Deputies responded to the 500 block of Braxton Drive in unincorporated Lafayette Parish near Youngsville in reference to three people found dead in a home, Sunday afternoon.

Investigators with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office said 36-year-old Brett Richardson shot and killed his wife Kasie Richardson, 33, and their 6-year-old son before turning the gun on himself.

Newly married couple and six year old found dead in murder-suicide

No one else was at the residence when the shooting took place, deputies said, KLFY reported.

The couple according to social media appeared to have only been married for a year and a half and shared 4 children from previous relationships.

News of the tragedy led to a local posting on Facebook in part:

‘The devastating loss has left the local community stunned and heartbroken as friends, neighbors, and loved ones struggle to process the tragedy. For many who knew the family, the news has been difficult to comprehend. Kasie Richardson is being remembered by those who knew her as a devoted mother who deeply loved her child and her family. She was described as caring, kind-hearted, and someone who brought warmth to the lives of those around her.

Her young son, only six years old, had a whole life ahead of him filled with dreams, innocence, and potential will now never be realized….’

Lafayette Parish community shocked amid unknown motive

Neighbors in the area described the neighborhood as quiet and family- oriented, making the tragic incident even more shocking for those living nearby.

Notice of the six year old boy’s death led to the Lafayette Parish school system issuing a statement.

‘The Lafayette Parish School System is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a Green T. Lindon Elementary student this past weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, teachers, and the entire school community as they process this heartbreaking loss …. LPSS extends its deepest condolences to all who are grieving.’ 

Neighbors in the area said they are still processing the tragedy.

Jaden and Celia Romero live down the street, and said they were coming back from church Sunday night when they noticed a heavy police presence nearby.

‘You hear about stuff like this all the time, but you never expect it to happen so close to where you’re at…this is a very quiet neighborhood–very family-friendly; everybody participates and decorates for Christmas, Halloween, but you know–you’re not immune,’ the couple told KATC.

The investigation is ongoing, and no other details were available.

No known motive was immediately known.
