A Washington, D.C. area man shot and killed his estranged partner after fleeing with their 3-year-old son before taking his own life during a police chase hours later. The boy was later found safe.
Rayven Amuan Edwards, 34, was discovered riddled with bullets after officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex residence at Glover Park on Wednesday, Feb. 11, just on 4.45 p.m, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said in a statement.

Police also found Edwards’ 10-year-old daughter shot at the scene, but the girl survived with non-life-threatening physical injuries. A second child, an 8-year-old boy, witnessed the shooting but was unharmed.
The woman’s estranged partner, Stephon Marquis Jeter, 3, was identified as the suspect, who shared a 3-year-old son with Edwards.
The child was believed to have been taken by Edwards, police announced.
Search for missing 3-year-old boy
Later Wednesday, Prince George’s County Police Department located Edwards’ pick-up truck in Maryland and began pursuing him before the vehicle crashed, according to the MPD statement.
Police found Jeter inside the car dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The missing 3-year-old who was not in the car was found safe and unharmed several hours later at a family member’s home in Prince George’s County, police said.
The D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office confirmed Jeter had an extensive criminal history, including a conviction for conspiring to traffic guns into the District.

A neighbor shared with WUSA9 details on the horrific aftermath of the shootings.
‘I heard screaming, which I thought was kids. Blood curdling,’ the unidentified neighbor told the outlet. ‘A young girl was there with blood coming down from her arm saying her stepdad had just shot her mom and she thinks she’s dead.’
Police Chief Jeffery Carroll told WTOP that it was a case of a ‘domestic’ dispute that ‘spilled out from the apartment into the hallway.’
Jennifer Wesberry of DC Safe, a nonprofit that helps domestic violence victims, said the impact of such violence reaches far beyond the immediate victims speaking to DCNewsNow.
‘It’s devastating, right? It’s devastating to the community,’ said Wesberry. ‘It’s devastating to the children. And the kind of generational impact that it has right to have to live with the violence that has occurred.’
