A 40-year-old Milton, Florida woman is accused of stabbing her six year old daughter up to 20 times, killing her and then blaming ‘evil spirits’ for the girl’s death.
April Oliva who now faces a murder charge is alleged to have stabbed her daughter, Valerie Oliva over 20 times with a kitchen knife.
The alleged incident occurred Tuesday night at a home on the 5000 block of Nowling Drive in Milton according to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Milton, Florida mom blames ‘evil spirits’
According to the arrest report, April Oliva called her sister around 11 p.m. The sister described it as ‘disturbing,’ adding she was ‘not making much sense, making comments about evil spirits and something bad happened.’
During the commotion, the girl’s father — who was out of town for work — was summonsed to the home, where the dad found April and Valerie lying on the floor covered in blood.
April is alleged to have told the father, also her husband, ‘she’s dead.’
Responding officers at the scene found the six year old girl with multiple stab wounds, including some to the neck. The medical examiner determined the girl suffered over 20 stab wounds throughout her body, WEAR reported.
No known motive
The mother who was also observed with self inflicted stab wounds on her neck and stomach was transported to hospital.
No other adults or children were home at the time of the incident, officials stated.
Deputies say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
‘This is a deeply tragic case, and our thoughts are with all those affected,’ the sheriff’s office stated. ‘Detectives continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews.’
