A long time bank employee at a North Carolina, Bank of America branch in Charlotte was shot dead as she momentarily stepped outside for a cigarette break on Friday.
Ina Michelle Lang, 50, a 20-year employee of Bank of America and a married mother of five was gunned down just on Friday 10.30 a.m, at the 9700 block of Callabridge Court as she stepped out for her customary morning smoke. Arrested in her murder was 22-year-old Sam’on Andrew Smith, who was ‘quickly’ identified as the gunman and taken into custody and charged with first degree murder, WSOC reported.
The outlet reported the suspect being taken into custody at his mother’s house later that day.
Bank employee shot dead execution style according to surveillance video
Leading up to the slaying, surveillance footage showed a man getting out of a Dodge Charger wearing a black face covering on Friday, walking over to the female victim outside on the sidewalk, and shooting her twice in the back, according to court records filed in Mecklenburg, the Charlotte Observer reported.
Officials to date have not announced a motive in the fatal shooting and what led to the worker being targeted. Police said it appeared the shooting may have been a random act of violence.
Victim remembered by her family
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Lang’s co-workers started a GoFundMe to assist her husband in raising money for funeral expenses.
‘Ina Lang was a loving mother and a committed wife with her husband Mike,’ the fundraiser stated. ‘She had the most amazing work ethic having been at Bank of America for over 20 years in Charlotte where her life was taken from her over a senseless shooting. We will always remember Ina as one of the strongest employees we’ve worked with and she treated our team as a family. She brought a motherly spirit to our team and will always be remembered as someone that never missed an opportunity to give, and having a heart bigger than she knew what to do with.’
Smith remains held at the Mecklenburg County Jail without bond.
