A man romantically involved with his female victim has been arrested in the shooting of a Fall River mother and her son in Massachusetts.
Arlington Cole, 54, upon his arrest was charged with two counts of murder and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm. Cole is accused of shooting and killing 25-year-old Nicholas Almeida and his mother 54-year-old Elizabeth Almeida on Jan. 30.
The shooting occurred on Barnes Street, in Fall River, just on 8 p.m, Friday night. The Almeidas were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead, Fall River police stated in a news release.
No known murder motive
At the time of the shooting, Cole made a call to dispatch stating ‘that he just shot his wife and son and that the gun was on the kitchen table,’ according to FallRiverReporter.
Police say that Cole was in a relationship with Elizabeth Almeida.
Cole was found at the scene along with a gun. Cole was initially charged with two counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon before charges being upgraded according to Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created for funeral expenses.
Authorities continue to investigate what led up to the boyfriend fatally shooting his female victim and her son.
