Nancy Guthrie SWAT operation leads to 3 detained & 4th person who shot self dead

4 suspects detained in Nancy Guthrie case, 5th person shoots self dead as SWAT operation during execution of search warrant at a Tucson Shadow Hills residence leads to 2 men & woman detained along with another individual at nearby traffic stop. 

Three people were detained Friday night at a home in the Tucson’s Shadow Hills neighborhood, Arizona authorities and witnesses said. Along with a fourth person detained during a nearby traffic stop related to the hunt for Nancy Guthrie

A witness further alleged that a fifth individual connected to the first three taking their own life after shooting themselves in the head during the course of engagement with FBI officials.

A Shadow Hills resident told News 4 Tucson she saw three people taken into custody during the operation, including two men and the mother of one those two men. According to a report from a neighbor, another person ‘shot himself in the head’ as law enforcement converged on the area.

The allegation of a fourth person dying of a self inflected gunshot wound had yet to be denied or confirmed by authorities as of early Saturday.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said the SWAT operation was connected to the ongoing investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance. While officials declined to identity the individuals detained, and their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of Today show host Savannah Guthrie mom, Nancy Guthrie, 84.

Fox News reported indicated that a fourth individual traveling in a silver Range Rover Sport SUV vehicle being detained during a traffic stop near Culvers, a fast food restaurant some two miles from Guthrie’s Tucson home. At the time of the detainment, the individual, whose age and gender remained unknown, is alleged to have been traveling towards the address where the first three individuals were detained. 

Images captured the SUV with its trunk open and partially covered by a white sheet while investigators inspected what was inside.

It remained unclear whether the four individuals had been arrested as suspects or earmarked as persons of interests in the case. All four had been taken in for questioning. To date no charges or verified arrests had been announced. 

Anticipated press briefing delayed as 4 detained individuals are questioned

The developments follow the Pima County Sheriff’s Department tactical team descending on the Marana area residence earlier Friday evening some 1.9 miles from Guthrie’s home, while executing a search warrant.

In a statement, the Pima County Police Department said: ‘Law enforcement activity is underway at a residence near E Orange Grove Rd & N First Ave related to the Guthrie case.’

Upon arriving at the address in the Shadow Hills neighborhood, tactical SWAT teams ordering two men and a woman inside to come out. All three complied and were detained according to Fox News.

Multiple SWAT and forensics vehicles were on scene, and roads were blocked for hours.

An anticipated press briefing or ‘written statement’ was postponed after the FBI asked that details pertaining to Friday night’s raid be kept under wraps.

The developments follow an individual earlier on Friday claiming to know who took Guthrie and demanding $100K to share their identity, TMZ reported. 

TMZ said it received a third message Friday from the same sender, after having initially reached out two other times demanding a one bitcoin unit – worth $65K to release the purported kidnapper’s identity only to now demand $100K after the reward for information leading to an arrest was raised from $50K to $100K. In their email exchange, the un-identified email sender warned this would be the final contact.

In the latest message, the person proposed an initial payment of $50,000 in Bitcoin in return for ‘the name of the main individual along with his information for you to track,’ according to the email. The statement implied more than one person being involved in the purported kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie.

Not immediately clear was the whereabouts of the missing 84-year-old matriarch and whether the ailing woman with a serious heart condition who needed daily medication was even still alive.
