Mississippi authorities have identified a flight instructor and a teen as the two victims involved in a deadly Mississippi small plane crash on Sunday.

Wesley Bolden, 29, of Marshall County and Jordan Hall, 17, of Olive Branch were identified as the fatalities according to a release from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

The two were killed when their small plane went down around 5 p.m. Sunday in a wooded area east of the Holly Springs-Marshall County Airport at 171 A.Q. Greer Road, WREG reported.

What led to Holly Springs Airport crash?

Bolden a flight instructor at the airport was well regarded by the community, Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson said.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were expected to be at the site Monday afternoon to begin looking into the cause of the crash.

It’s unknown whether the plane was attempting to land when it crashed at the south end of the airport, east of the runway.

Dickerson said it appeared the plane struck a large pine tree and was demolished. It was on fire when crews arrived at the scene Sunday night.

‘As mayor of his city, and although I did not have the privilege of knowing Jordan Hall personally, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends,’ Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams said in a release.

Tributes paid to beloved Marshall County, Mississippi flight instructor

‘The loss of a young man in the prime of his life is truly heartbreaking and is felt throughout our entire community. My prayers are with his loved ones, and I ask God to hold them especially close as they walk through this difficult valley.’

The main runway at the Holly Springs-Marshall County Airport is about 3,200 feet long. There is no tower at the airport, which may indicate that takeoff and landing permission is handled through the Memphis air traffic control center.

FAA records show that the plane was registered to Firecrest LLC — a flight training company in Holly Springs. Bolden appeared to have been the founder of that company and its flight instructor, according to the ‘About Us’ section of its website.

‘Wesley’s loss will be felt deeply and endlessly by all who loved him. Please join us in lifting this family up in prayer during this heartbreaking time,’ Marshall Academy said in its tribute.

Authorities have not yet said who was piloting the plane as they now seek to discover what led to the plane crash.
