Spring Weems, Edmond, Oklahoma mother found dead in trash can outside of her home after one of her two adopted teen sons admitting to killing the devout Christian parent.
Oklahoma authorities have identified the remains of a woman found in a trash can earlier this week as that of a ‘devout’ Christian woman allegedly slayed at the hands of one of her two adoptive teen sons.
Spring Weems, 49, was killed at her Edmond, Cascata Falls home near Oklahoma City, on Wednesday afternoon. The woman’s adoptive teen son was booked on first degree charges in relation to the woman’s death.
The mother’s body was unearthed after one of her adoptive sons confessing to officers with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office that he had killed his mother after being called to break up a fight involving two siblings on the street where the victim lived involving a knife after a welfare check was requested by an unknown party.
‘Mom is in the trash can’
During questioning, when asked about their mother’s whereabouts one of the siblings stated, ‘Mom is in the trash can,’ KOCO reported.
The adoptive son led officers to the poly cart bin used for trash collection outside of Weem’s home where her body was found. Officers deemed that the mother had suffered injuries that were ‘suspicious in nature’ and ‘consistent with homicide.’
Authorities have not released the name or age of the suspected murderer, but did confirm he lived in the home with Weems and his adoptive brother. Social media indicated the teenagers involved in the fight were aged 16 and 17 and were Weems adoptive sons.
Officials to date have declined to describe the nature of the injuries that the mother suffered or what type of weapon was used, nor how long her body had been in the trash can.
Of note, the adopted sibling come Thursday posted on the timeline of his mother’s Facebook page writing, ‘I love you momma.’
Devout Christian mom championed her two adoptive teen sons
KFOR reported Weems living alone with the two teenagers and to being their sole guardian. A regard of Weem’s social media profile revealed the mother boasting about the teen boy’s accomplishments along with attending her adoptive son’s high school wrestling matches.
The family are also believed to have been parishioners at the non-denominational evangelical Life Church. Along with boasting the achievements of her sons, the mom also shared her faith in God on social media.
Weems shared that as a parent, she taught her children not to fight and to love each other.
‘Our FATHER wants the same for us, so tomorrow let’s reflect on UNITY, as we are ALL brothers and sisters under the same Creator, & HE wants HIS children to live in harmony TOGETHER!’ the parent stated in one previous post.
Her family seemingly followed her journey in Christianity, with at least one son having been involved with Life Church’s youth ministry program Switch. It is unclear if the son who attended Switch was involved in her death.
Weems’s remains have since been transported to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy to be carried out.
The arrested son is being held in a juvenile facility in Canadian County. The other teen who was involved in the fight on the street has since been placed with other family.
Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation was called to take over the case, and is now actively interviewing neighbors and other possible witnesses.
