An Oklahoma man along with his wife arrested in arrested in connection to alleged chid and sexual abuse of their 12-year-old son, attempted to take his own life while in custody on Monday.
George Cole, the stepfather of Ryan ‘RJ’ Davis, had attempted to hang himself with a bedsheet in his jail cell according to a release from the Caddo County District Attorney.
Chickasha stepdad tries to take own life one day after missing 12-year-old son found
After about 30 minutes of CPR, first responders were able to revive the stepdad, who is currently being treated at a hospital in Anadarko, KOCO reported.
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has been asked to investigate the incident.
Shortly before Cole tried to take his own life, he learned that he had been charged with several counts. Online records show that Cole was charged with eight counts of child abuse, one count of child sexual abuse, and one count of child neglect.
The step father also faces additional counts for a pattern of criminal offenses and conspiracy.
Cole went before a special district judge on Monday. A preliminary hearing conference was scheduled for April 16, and his bond was set at $2.5 million.
He was ordered to have no contact with minors and to have no weapons of any sort in his possession. Cole was also ordered to wear a GPS device and, if bonded out, to have no contact with animals or other witnesses.

Of note, RJ Davis mother, Kimberly Cole according to court records faces three counts of child abuse, three counts of child neglect, two counts of child sexual abuse, two counts of crimes against nature and one count of conspiracy.
Monday’s events comes two days after Ryan ‘RJ’ Davis who had been missing since January 2 being found inside a shelter on Sunday, January 11.
‘We can say that the outcome that we were all hoping for has come true,’ Hunter McKee, public information manager with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, said. ‘RJ Davis was found safe. He’s doing well.’
While authorities had yet to say how the boy came to end up ‘alone’ at the unspecified location in Caddo County, Oklahoma authorities stated that the boy had previously run away from home over ‘unsafe home conditions’.
Family members have promised the traumatized boy not to send him back to his parents. State authorities are now seeking a foster home for the 12-year-old boy.
The investigation into RJ’s parents continues.
