Two women caught in a confrontation over a vantage point while taking a selfie at Nevada’s Red Rock Canyon, on New Year’s Day have gone viral after video showed one of the woman, since named Karen (pejorative for white privileged woman) berating an un-identified Italian tourist who refused to give up the spot.
The unidentified woman’s rant, apparently sparked by frustration over how long the visitor was taking at the scenic viewpoint, some 15 miles west of Las Vegas, was captured on video and shared social media.
Footage showed the woman repeatedly accusing the tourist of assault, as bemused onlookers laughed at the increasingly heated unhinged confrontation.

‘She just spit on me now,’ the woman yelled in the clip. ‘That is assault.’
Meanwhile, the tourist denied the accusations and alleged that the woman – who was branded the ‘first Karen of 2026’ on social media after her tirade – ‘kicking’ her first.
‘No. I did not,’ the woman shot back.
‘Everybody’s here,’ she added. ‘Are you that ignorant, where you don’t understand?’
The video showed the Karen damning the tourist and calling her ‘pathetic,’ just inches from her face.
A younger woman tried to calm down the worked up ‘Karen’ as her outburst grew louder, but to no avail.
When shouting failed to move the visitor, Kaen sat in the frame and attempted to derail the photo opportunity.
‘I’ll just sit here for as long as I want,’ Karen screamed. ‘You got that, lady?’
Of course, wonders sane minds, ‘why not just go to another vantage point to take a selfie?’

At one point, the increasingly flustered Karen motions to the crowd, claiming she’d been assaulted.
‘He is a lawyer,’ the woman said, pointing to someone off-frame.
The tourist, who had been calmly sitting on a rock, could barely be heard during the nearly two-minute clip.
She told the woman: ‘You kicked me.’
‘You’re rude and obnoxious,’ Karen crouches down to the Italian tourist eye level and yells at her. Adding, ‘I don’t know who the hell you think you are,’ the woman said. ‘But if I would have fallen…’

‘That’s assault,’ she insisted, although the video did not show any instances of physicality between both women.

At that point, the tourist had enough of the angst ridden Karen and appeared to spit in her face.
The shocked woman again called her ‘pathetic’ and even invoked her military background – despite the squabble having broken out over a selfie spot.
‘I have served in the freakin’ Army,’ she said.
The tourist was then told by the woman that ‘you can be arrested’ for the alleged assault.
‘Sorry everybody, but I’m not tolerating this,’ the woman told the crowd.
‘She was sitting here taking pictures as if she belonged with some glamour magazine,’ Karen added.
The footage ended with the tourist leaving the selfie spot as the so-called Karen seethed.
